Notes from February 11 meeting

Greetings and thank you to all the participants of our last meeting! In addition to our familiar faces we had representatives from the following groups: parents and families, non-profit educational groups, graduate students, former educators.

Throughout our meeting we discussed primarily what the interests and needs of parents and children that live throughout our community may be. This conversation focused on the following points- (1) schools (prek-12) available to downtown residents, (2) the quality of schools here and what we can/should do to improve them, (3) what we can possibly do to provide additional and even interim solutions to this challenge, (4) needs of homeless children in our community related to schools and education programs for them and their parents, (5) how we can support community outreach organizations that are working to provide resources to our children already.

At this point we have a lot of questions we are working on answering to gather missing information that might help us decide how to best move forward. I feel like we will soon be at a point when we can decide on some projects to take on, but we will NEED help-- we NEED active players that will want to participate and even possibly take the lead on some projects. One thing you can possibly easily help with is just letting us know who you are-- we need to know how many families (and how many children of what ages) we have in downtown, and where they are.

If you have ideas and comments/questions you would like to share-- please do post here or contact me by emailing danielle.duran.dlanc@gmail.com and please do join us at our next meeting on Wednesday, March 11, 6:30pm at Arda's Cafe (418 W 6th Street- 6th/Olive across from Pershing Square)
